Private party meeting and criticism of Canal Street office

In speaking with Mr. Allen Provost, I have come to understand that a private meeting was recently held at the new Democratic Party office located at 3302 Canal St. This meeting, reportedly called by Democratic Chair Michael P. Doyle or Judge Audrie Lawton-Evans, remains shrouded in mystery. When Mr. Provost, one of the most active and outspoken precinct chairs asked about it, he found that no one seemed to know anything about the gathering. I echo his question: Who called the meeting, and who attended?
On Thursday, February 6, 2025, I personally visited the new Party office to assess its offerings. Compared to the Lyons Avenue office, I found it lacking. While the location has changed, the environment remains the same. Moving from one group to another does not seem to result in meaningful improvement.
As discussions now shift to the 2025 elections, I want to highlight a critical issue: the loss of judges in Harris County by margins of fewer than 400 votes. In my view, this outcome can largely be attributed to Chair Michael P. Doyle’s failure to invest in northeast and northwest Houston areas with historically high voter turnout. For those planning to be on the ballot in 2026, this should serve as a wake-up call. Repeating the same strategy will yield the same results.
In my 50+ years of political experience, I have never seen a Democratic Party office located in a residence. Traditionally, Party offices have been centrally located to best serve the public. I was critical of the Lyons Avenue office when it opened, and I am voicing the same concerns about the Canal St. office now. The current space, approximately 20x20, includes a food court and recreational facilities but lacks private meeting rooms for precinct judges and executives to convene.
According to my reliable sources, two or three upcoming meetings are being planned (dates to be determined). These meetings will provide an opportunity to discuss key issues, including transparency, accuracy, and past election concerns. We will also examine how millions of dollars were spent under Democratic leadership and what changes need to be made moving forward.
For those who follow the Houston Business Connection, you know I take great pride in being a chief political advisor for elected officials. I hope this letter sparks the necessary conversations to address these concerns and ensure the Party is better equipped to serve our community in the future.
Thank you for your attention to these important matters.
Sincerely,
Ray / RC Jones
