Concerns about elected official offices and HCC North Forest

Updated: Jun 4

From the Desk of Ray/RC Jones

As many of you know, I am the President of the Northside Political Action Group, serving both the East and West regions. My mission is to inform the northeast community about matters that are essential to our voters. With over 48 years of experience in politics, I am deeply familiar with the political landscape, especially how it operates with elected officials.

One of the core principles I advocate for is examining an elected official’s record. Their actions reveal not only what they have accomplished but also what they should be doing for their constituents. As a community, we must hold them accountable. In the near future, I will be sharing information on key topics that we, as a community, must unite around, standing together on one accord to make our voices heard.

One specific concern is the lack of elected officials' offices in the northeast. Many believe the 5th Ward is the boundary of our community, but we know that isn't the case. We must work together to ensure that our community's needs are addressed, and that we have representation in every area that affects us.

Another crucial issue is the future of HCC at the North Forest campus. It’s important that we come together on this matter, ensuring that our community is treated with the respect it deserves and not just seen as a location for projects like a detention pond. As of February 2023, HCC made it clear they are not interested in developing an on-site detention pond or selling any land for such projects, choosing instead to maintain their existing agreements. This is a critical issue for our community’s future, and I urge you all to stay informed and involved.

Lastly, I want to emphasize the importance of understanding your property tax statements. If you're unsure about them, I recommend reading Bill King's article for more insight.

I also want to invite all northeast ministers and leaders to join this effort no matter the size of your congregation or group. Together, we can educate and empower our younger voters. Let us come together as one community, on one accord, unified in our mission to improve the future of Northeast Houston.
